The number one rule is to NEVER PAY. Paying tells them you have access to money, and if you pay they will keep contacting you for more. If you already paid, you have to be extra cautious because they will try their hardest to get more money out of you because they understand that you must have a lot to lose if you are paying. In ether case, never pay. Always block.
Unfortunately in this day and age, some offenders make it there full time job to sextort. There number one goal is to get as much money as possible from you in the fastest amount of time. Reality is, even if you pay them, all that does is say "I am an easy target who is willing to pay for my mistake". Even if you pay what they ask, they will ALWAYS ask for more after you make payment in full. The single most important thing to do is BLOCK THEM even if you already paid.
The first thing to do is to put ALL OF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA on private. Not just the platform you got found on. For example if they got your insta account, they may be able to search it and find your other social media accounts. So its best to put all accounts on private for the time being. Also change ur handle before you open it back up again. If you sent them payment or gift cards already, keep it on private for a longer period, as you already paid them so they may be a bit more aggressive because they know you paid once, and may be willing to pay again.
For lots of scammers, sextortion is all about making money. This may be there FULL TIME JOB. Sextortion is also a crime punishable by jail. If they complete the threat and actually do leak ur nudes, they are leaving digital evidence behind. The more times they do this, the higher the odds of them getting caught. For this reason, they only follow through and post nudes as an absolute last resort, to push you to your breaking point in hopes to get money from you.
Once the scammer believes that they are no longer able to communicate, you have won. They will move on to the next victim, unfortunately.
If you simply cut contact with them, they will no longer be able to threaten you. By having no contact, it also reduces the odds they will leak ur nudes (the only thing that would result is them creating digital evidence that can be used against them in court). IF THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO CONTACT YOU, THEY HAVE NO REASON TO LEAK YOUR NUDES!
Its not worth the possibility of them going to jail because they want to "get you back" for not paying.
If you google what to do after a sextortion, there are some companys that claim you can hire them to stop the threat.
NEVER FALL FOR THIS! THIS IS NOT A LEGGIT SERVICE IF THEY ARE ASKING FOR MONEY FROM YOU
Everyone makes mistakes. The best thing to do is to learn to never put urself in a situation where this can happen again.
This is 2024, scammers are going to be scamming hard, so everyone stay safe.
